Editorial + Commercial

companies, everyday people & Publications

I’m Mary Fehr, a Birmingham-based editorial and commercial photographer focused on capturing people, places, and stories with honesty and intention. My work blends documentary authenticity with an editorial perspective, creating images that feel both natural and visually compelling.

With a background in fine art photography and art history, I’m drawn to light, color, form, and the small details that give an image depth and presence. I approach photography as a way to both document and interpret a subject—creating photographs that reflect not just how something looks, but how it feels to be there.

I specialize in environmental portraiture, food photography, and visual storytelling for publications, restaurants, and brands. I’m especially interested in photographing people within their own spaces—chefs in their kitchens, creatives in their studios, and founders in the environments they’ve built. These settings allow me to capture images that feel grounded, personal, and true to the story.

My process is collaborative and observant. I prioritize creating a comfortable environment so people can be fully themselves, allowing authenticity and personality to emerge naturally. Whether working on editorial assignments or commercial campaigns, my goal is to create images that are emotionally resonant, visually strong, and aligned with each client’s voice.

Birmingham’s creative and culinary community continues to shape my work and perspective. The people, spaces, and culture here have influenced my approach to storytelling and my interest in documenting meaningful, place-driven narratives.

I’m available for editorial, restaurant, and commercial assignments in Birmingham and nationwide.
